Původ: The variety was created by Professor H. Müller from the Swiss canton Thurgau in 1882. It is mentioned as the cross-bred vine of Rhine Riesling and Green Silvaner. The later expert knowledge has proven this variety to be created by crossing Rhine Riesling with Madeleine Royal. It covers 13,9 % of the vineyards in the Czech Republic and the trend shows its significant reduction.

White Ruländer (Pinot Blanc)

Origin: This variety came into being as a bud mutant clone of Pinot Gris grape. It has been grown in Alsace since the 14th century. Its Czech name, Rulandské bílé, has resulted from the appellation of Grauer Burgunder in Germany. The Czech name “Rulandské” is used for the whole group of Burgundian varieties and it has become a world rarity. In the Governmental Variety Sheet, this variety was entered as Burgundské bílé (Weißburgunder) between 1941 and 1993; since 1993, it bears the name Rulandské bílé (White Ruländer). Within the area of the today’s Czech Republic, this variety covers 5,1 % of the vineyard areas and tends to held this portion despite the high competition from Chardonnay.

Grey Ruländer (Pinot Gris)

This variety came together with Pinot Noir to Bohemia as early as in the 14th century. Nowadays, it is grown on 2,0 % of the vineyards; recently, a soft increase of this portion has been obvious.

Rhine Riesling

Origin: It has not been cleared yet. This variety is anticipated to be created by free crossing of Heunisch with Traminer round about the upper Rhine River. To all worldwide wine-growing regions, it was spread from Germany where it covers almost 22 % of the entire vineyard areas. In the 17th century, Rhine Riesling was spread by Dominician within the territory of the present Czech Republic. In 2002, Rhine Riesling covered 6,5 % of the entire vineyard area in the Czech Republic and it tends to a soft increase.

foto

Wine: The wine reaches excellent properties if the grapes are harvested at the end of October or at the beginning of November because the aromas are developed mainly during changing the low night temperatures with the sunny days. Rhine Riesling is considered the most-quality variety in the northern wine-growing regions.

Blue Ruländer (Pinot noir, Pinot nero, Blauer Burgunder, Spätburgunder, Kisburgundi)

Origin: This variety originates from Burgundy where it was probably created during the Roman Period by spontaneous crossbreeding of Pinot Meunier (Schwarzriesling) and Traminer. The existence of this variety was documented in Rhineland as early as in the 7th century and round around the Lake of Constance in the 9th century. Karl IV. let the variety bring to Bohemia in the 14th century. In Bohemia, it covered 90 % of vineyards later. Nowadays, Pinot Noir is grown on 2,5 % of the vineyards areas and tends to increase its portion slowly.

St. Laurent is the most-frequented black variety and the fourth most frequented generally. The worldwide largest areas of this variety are located just in the Czech Republic.

foto
